ABOUT THE REPORT

Today we are the 6th of November, the day when women 'start working for free', and that is until the end of the year according to Les Glorieuses. While Sciences Po students may be spared this economic vulnerability because of the executive careers many of them will pursue, they are nonetheless part of an economic system in which they lose out.

At a time when students are formulating their career aspirations and have barely finished their studies, why don't female students start out their career on the same footing as male students? This is the question we tried to answer in this report. And our results are alarming: Sciences Po Students cannot wish for gender equality on the job market because their professional projections are already unequal.

  • 1 female student out of 3 is unable to build her network because it is a source of anxiety

  • 65% of female students vs 35% of male students consider the employer’s commitment to be important in the choice of their first job

  • 1 female student out of 2 students lacks self-confidence (vs 1 male student out of 5)

  • 26% of female students vs 41% of male students want to earn a salary higher than 40 000€ gross per year

Beyond these numbers, we must act to guarantee equality: to allow female students to be as confident as male students in their potential, and to enable male students to take other career paths. We must tackle this specific moment; when women and men are still students and not yet engaged in their professional lives, to propose a transformative project that would try to correct the inequalities encountered later on the job market.

With the Association des Juristes de Sciences Po, Association de l’Ecole d’affaires publiques, Endosup, Junior Consulting Sciences Po, Legal Change, PSIA Student Association, Nous Toutes, Sciences Polémiques, Sciences Po Finance, Sciences Pôle RH, We_Start and Women in Business, we have launched a coalition not only to share the results of this study, but also to make 5 recommendations defending a better mental health, a professionalization of our Master’s program, and the awareness-raising of female students regarding the competitive exams.
